Functional Medicine

Functional Medicine is patient-centered medical healing, natural way to become healthy again and prevent future imbalances/diseases.   Instead of looking at and treating isolated diseases, it treats each person who may have symptoms and imbalances.

According to Functional Medicine, the cause of all diseases lies in the altered physiology in the body. Almost always, the cause of the disease and its symptoms is an underlying dysfunction either in the gastrointestinal function/absorption and an hormonal imbalance. The focus is on addressing the root cause of disease and decreasing/preventing inflammation in the body, which subsequently may cause cardiovascular disease, neurodegenerative diseases,( such as Alzheimer's and strokes), autoimmune (such as lupus and rheumatoid arthritis) and metabolic diseases (such as diabetes or fatty liver).

To battle chronic health symptoms, Functional Medicine uses scientifically grounded principles:

1. Remove anything that impedes the body from moving toward optimal state of health and causes malfunctioning. It can be gastrointestinal microorganisms, foods, that patient may be intolerant to, heavy metals and toxins.  They are usually identified by advanced laboratory testing that streamlines the process of identifying the root cause(s) of patient's health problems.

2. Add what’s lacking in the body to restore body back to a state of optimal functioning, such as minerals, vitamins, fatty acids and sometimes bio identical hormones. Herbs (seeds, roots, leaves and flowers of the plants) are used for treating and preventing disease.

3. Aid in the detoxification of the liver and optimize other metabolic pathways, thyroid and adrenal function, and energy production.
